Maesbury Road & Mile Oak DTC Approach
Maesbury Road and Mile Oak are used on every route. All 12 tests start and finish through this junction - some routes turn left, others right onto Maesbury Road, and the final return often involves navigating Maes Y Clawdd or Shrewsbury Road before entering the estate. Keep your speed low through Mile Oak Industrial Estate and observe carefully at the exit onto Maesbury Road.

A5 Dual Carriageway Roundabouts
The A5 is used on 12 routes and its roundabouts are the most technically demanding junctions on any Oswestry test. Routes approach the A5 roundabouts from multiple directions - some via Shrewsbury Road, others from Whittington Road or Gobowen Road. The A5 itself carries fast-moving traffic between roundabouts, so merge confidently and signal well in advance of your exit.

Shrewsbury Road & Whittington Road Corridor
Shrewsbury Road and Whittington Road are used on 11 and 10 routes respectively and form the main approach corridors to the A5. Routes use this corridor in both directions - heading towards the A5 from the DTC and returning from it. Junction spacing is moderate, so maintain a consistent speed and observation pattern throughout rather than accelerating between junctions.

Town Centre - Welsh Walls, Castle Street & Salop Road
Welsh Walls, Castle Street, and Salop Road form the historic town centre crossroads network used on five routes. These are gated crossroads and one-way sections - follow the road layout carefully and do not assume priority. Salop Road has its own mini roundabout. Pedestrian and cyclist activity is higher here than in the surrounding residential areas, so reduce speed and observe at every junction.

Gobowen Road, Twmpath & Unicorn Road Western Loop
Gobowen Road, Twmpath, and Unicorn Road form a western loop used on six routes connecting the A5 back to the DTC via the Whittington Road corridor. A roundabout at Twmpath and another at Gobowen Road are used in multiple directions. Unicorn Road is a quieter residential road - junctions are end-of-road or crossroads requiring full observation before emerging.
