What to Expect at Nelson

Cobden Street & DTC Approach
Cobden Street is the road of the test centre and is used on every route. You will navigate its junctions at both the start and finish of all 15 tests - some routes turn right, others left, so confirm your initial direction from your examiner before pulling away. The adjacent Lomeshaye Road roundabout is encountered on most routes and must be approached with a clear exit already in mind.

Scotland Road, Reedyford Road & Bypass Roundabout Chain
A chain of roundabouts on Scotland Road, Reedyford Road, and the Bypass corridor is used across the majority of routes heading north and west. These roundabouts follow each other in quick succession - required exits alternate between left, right, and ahead - so read the route instructions early and do not carry speed from one into the next.

Barkerhouse Road & Netherfield Road Network
Barkerhouse Road and Netherfield Road form a roundabout network in the industrial estate area east of the DTC, used on seven routes. Multiple consecutive roundabouts sit close together here - some routes pass through three or four in sequence, each requiring a different exit, so reduce speed early and count exits carefully.

Briercliffe Road Roundabouts & Bypass Corridor
Briercliffe Road and the Bypass are used on six routes each, often looping via Carr Road and Windermere Avenue. The Briercliffe Road roundabouts require confident lane selection - routes use them in both directions and with varying exit numbers. After the bypass sections, speed must be reduced promptly before rejoining the local road network.

Manchester Road, Broadway & Carr Road Corridor
Manchester Road, Broadway, and Carr Road form a busy corridor used on multiple routes returning to the DTC from the north and west. Broadway has its own roundabout. Traffic light junctions are frequent throughout this area - maintain a consistent approach speed and ensure you are in the correct lane well before each junction.
